Singapore: Vertical farming comes to NTUC FairPrice outlets Indoor Farm Factory Innovation (I.F.F.I), in partnership with Siemens, has introduced mobile vertical farming racks at selected NTUC FairPrice outlets in Singapore, bringing locally grown fresh produce directly to consumers at the retail level. The vertical farming racks are powered by Siemens automation technology and are designed to deliver fresh local greens at any location, regardless of climate conditions.
According to the companies, the system generates lower CO2 emissions compared to conventional field farming, while the integrated technology continues to support the sustainable growth of the produce while on display in-store. © Junior Baca The initiative reflects a broader trend toward shortening supply chains and increasing the availability of locally grown produce within urban retail environments.
Why this matters: This matters when it gives operators a clearer way to manage water, nutrients, and root-zone risk. That kind of control usually improves both resource efficiency and crop consistency.
